Ancient Greek life size helmet from the famous city of Sparta, dated 440 B.C. Sparta or Lacedaemon was a prominent city-state in ancient Greece in South-eastern Peloponnese. Around 650 BC, it rose to become the dominant military land-power in ancient Greece.(more on Spartan Art of War…) Given its military pre-eminence, Sparta was recognized as the overall leader of the combined Greek forces during the Greco-Persian Wars, the most famous battle of which was the heroic stand at Thermopylae where 300 Spartans and 700 Thespeians fought under the leadership of King Leonidas. (find out more about Leonidas…) Characteristic for a helmet of Spartan origin is the austere short crest. Two chariots are engraved on either top parts of the helmet. The helmet is offered with an optional marble stand to create a perfect display piece. Handmade in Greece of solid bronze, an exact museum reproduction.
